Meeting and Transfer

On the first day of the retreat, you will be picked up at Puerto Maldonado (PEM) airport by the staff from Corto Maltes. Look for your name on a Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge sign at the airport exit.

Not everyone arrives on the same flight, so you will be transferred either individually or in small groups, depending on the arrival times of other participants. If flights are close enough in schedule, transfers may be combined. Please remember to send us your flight details in advance.

Payment and Money

The participation fee is due on the first day of your arrival and must be paid in cash (US dollars or Euros), unless you have paid in full in advance. Please note that banknotes must be in good condition, as Peruvian banks reject bills with even minor tears or visible damage. Additionally, $100 USD banknotes from the CB2 series are often not accepted in Peru.

For personal expenses, carrying US dollars is the simplest option. However, common currencies such as AUD, CAD, and Euros are also accepted at many exchange points. Alternatively, you can use an ATM card to withdraw Peruvian soles (local currency) or US dollars. Be aware that withdrawal limits in Peru are typically between $200 and $400 USD per day, so relying solely on ATMs may not be ideal for large purchases.

Ayahuasca Diet

We strongly encourage you to follow a proper diet at least two weeks before participating in the Ayahuasca ceremonies. Please take a moment to read our Ceremony Preparation Guidelines for details.

Vaccinations & Health

The locations we visit on our journeys have no known epidemic outbreaks of dangerous viruses or bacteria that would require vaccination. However, we recommend consulting your doctor regarding any personal health concerns or necessary medications.

Malaria medication, often suggested by Western doctors, is not recommended, as it is a poor combination with the Ayahuasca experience. There is no malaria risk in the areas we visit. Additionally, taking probiotics for a week or two before your trip may help strengthen your body.

Electricity

Peru primarily uses American-style electrical outlets with two flat, parallel prongs, though some locations may offer more universal outlets.

Recycling of regular batteries is limited, and due to their toxicity, we encourage you to use rechargeable batteries whenever possible. A charger will be available at the lodge.
