What is Ayahuasca

In the territories of Amazon rainforest, from Brazil to Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, Ayahuasca has been known for the centuries if not millennia. The indigenous people of local tribes, especially the healers and shamans, have been exploring hundreds of medicinal and teacher plants, growing in the jungle, and the main, most respected teacher plant for them was and still is the Ayahuasca brew. Ayahuasca effect and experience

Ayahuasca effect is a state of altered, amplified consciousness that is experienced after drinking the Ayahuasca brew. The effects can manifest in visions, eventually nausea and other emetic effects or purging which is an Ayahuasca function as a detoxication agent.

On a psychological level it manifests as a much more intense way of experiencing the thinking and self-reflection processes, deeper comprehension of one’s reality, flow of insights. It may reveal the content of one’s conscious, as well as of subconscious reality of one’s Mind. Ayahuasca can provoke a person to take a deeper look to the reality, ideas, ideologies or beliefs.

Benefits of Ayahuasca

The journeys of Ayahuasca provide the direct experience about conditions of one’s body, mental and emotional states, allowing to intuitively become aware of possible locked-up energies, psychosomatic blockages, possible causes for illnesses, roots of the addictive behavior and emotional misbalances.

Ayahuasca helps to cleanse the body, to deeply understand oneself and the reality. On an emotional level it facilitates the release of blockages and to open oneself to existential questions about the nature of life, living and dying etc. It is a journey of thorough exploration of the whole being, the relationships, capacities, creativity, sexuality, emotionality and what’s beyond all of that we can think and conceive.

Ayahuasca experience can be transformative, a life-changing event, helping to relate directly and maturely to one’s life and all what it consists of, creating the connection with that part of one’s spirituality, that goes beyond the definitions and systems of belief. However, it is important to note that the experiences with such teacher plants simply give the opportunity to explore one’s awareness and see how the transformation could be possibile. Teacher plants basically show us the states of the awareness that are accessible to us, rather than provide us a temporary refuge or an escape from the Reality, which is what distinguishes the teacher plants from the drugs or recreative substances.

The experiences with Ayahuasca or San Pedro can connect one to a natural state of Mind. These experiences point out the experiences that prevents from being completely human, compassionate and to live with a wakeful mind and an open heart.

The insights received with the help of Ayahuasca are like meetings with the spiritual teacher within ourselves.

Who can benefit from Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is NOT an experience for everybody nor it is a universal remedy for anything. As somebody said “You can’t wake up somebody who is pretending to be asleep”, so you can’t convince a person to be willing to wake up – its a voluntary act. Ayahuasca experience is not necessarily pleasant, however is completely safe, as physically as well as psychologically, given that the basic guidelines are followed. Ayahuasca effect and benefit in a long-term is an outcome of applying its teachings in daily life.

Avoiding misunderstandings with Ayahuasca

There are few things that need to be clarified about the Ayahuasca and about the counterproductive ways of approaching this most respected teacher plant of the Amazon jungle. This clarification is necessary in order to avoid possible misunderstandings and unpleasant experiences. So let’s put out some of the ways to describe what Ayahuasca IS and what Ayahuasca IS NOT.

Ayahuasca is:

  • not a drug,
  • not a DMT trip,
  • not an entertainment,
  • not a panacea for anything,
  • not a recreative experience.

If Ayahuasca isn’t being approached maturely, without understanding it’s ancestral use nor being concerned for the basic guidelines and precautions, having confused idea of what Ayahuasca is, there’s a chance of having confused experiences.

Ayahuasca is:

  • shamanic tea of medicinal plants,
  • a brew for detoxication and psychosomatic cleansing,
  • an experience of holistic therapy,
  • an experience of the inner teacher and guide,
  • momentum of Magic

As a teacher experience, Ayahuasca deserves to be approached with utmost respect, following provided guidelines and “armored” by the honest willingness to actually see what teacher is going to show.

Ayahuasca is simply about facing the reality that we live each daily in the “full light” of heart understanding, having nothing to do with escaping into other realities or having a trip. The experience doesn’t quiet allow us to avoid the reality, rather on contrary – it opens our perception and the awareness and let’s us face our reality in its totality.

Ayahuasca may be a great support on a path for knowing ourselves, but it doesn’t work just by passively participating in a ritual or just by drinking it. Ayahuasca is not something external that can comes and repairs a problem in us without our involvement. Ayahuasca experience, by “shedding the light on our reality”, gives us the opportunities, wisdom and “tools” to be integrated on a daily basis.

When Ayahuasca is being described as a healer refers to the inner processes that it facilitates, that eventually may initiate physical changes, psychosomatic and spiritual shifts in a person, resulting in the change of habits, addictive patterns etc. Ayahuasca experience inspires, helps us start changing so that a self-healing and genuine transformation may happen.
